Project Update March 2020: Coronavirus

The NHS is now facing the most extraordinary period in its history as it responds to the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

During these unprecedented times our thoughts are with all NHS organisations and staff working at the frontline, our volunteers and interviewees, community organisations and charities we have partnered with and the public as a whole.

NHS at 70 has been recording peoples’ stories of the NHS across the UK since 2017. Our collection of over 800 oral histories documents the shared history of this unique institution and its place in everyday life over the last 70 or so years.

The safety of our volunteers and interviewees is our top priority so we have suspended interviewing and all public facing activity during this period of social distancing following guidance from PHE and the Government.

However we are still actively recruiting people to who would like to be interviewed in the future and we are developing new ways of doing this remotely. Please do get in touch if you would like to find out more

You can explore the history of the NHS on our website through exhibitions, blogs and our Digital Archive containing over 80 fully summarised audio recordings with more coming soon.

With best wishes from all the NHS at 70 Project team.
